Phil Ackland (President and instructor)
Phil Ackland has been in the commercial kitchen exhaust industry for over 40 years. He sits on the National Fire Protection Association's technical committee for NFPA 96: Standard for Ventilation Control and Fire Protection of Commercial Cooking Equipment. He has written five books on commercial kitchen exhaust systems covering installation, inspection, cleaning and fire investigation. He offers training seminars to contract cleaners, building and fire inspectors, fire investigators and insurance professionals. He conducts fire investigations and provides litigation support testimony related to fire incidents in commercial kitchen exhaust systems. APPOINTMENTS
1988 - National Fire Protection Association's technical committee for NFPA 96: Standard for Ventilation Control and Fire Protection of Commercial Cooking Equipment. Submitted a number of proposals that were accepted into NFPA 96 Standard: 1991, 1994, 1998, 2001 and 2004 editions.
1994 - City of Vancouver's fire protection task force and chair of the sub-committee on commercial kitchen ventilation technicians certification program.
2004 - Underwriters Laboratories' 1978 committee.

PATENTS
1991- Designed and patented the only UL Listed access panel for commercial cooking exhaust ductwork, which exceeds the NFPA 96 Standard, SMC, UMC, and BOCA Codes.
1997 - Created and patented a number of unique grease absorbent products to protect restaurant roof surfaces.

LECTURES AND INSTRUCTIONS GIVEN
Created and delivered a 21-hour credit course designed to certify kitchen exhaust maintenance workers for the City of Vancouver.
Created and delivered a 14-hour course on the design and installation requirements for commercial kitchen exhaust systems for the University of British Columbia.
Designed and presently teach a regularly scheduled 5-day exhaust cleaning school in conjunction with DPW Services in Louisville, KY.

Don Stewart (associate)
Don Stewart is a kitchen fire suppression systems expert with over 30 years experience. His area of expertise is in the design and installation of Class II kitchen suppression systems. Over the last 10 years he has consulted to authorities having jurisdiction, insurance companies and fire protection companies on the design, installation, maintenance and compliance to manufacturers' guidelines on both wet and dry chemical kitchen fire suppression systems. He conducts fire investigations and provides litigation support testimony to fire incidents in commercial kitchen fire suppression systems. He is factory trained and certified by many fire suppression manufacturers including Ansul, Chemetron, FSI, General, Kidde, Range Guard and System Master. Don Stewart is a licensed sprinkler contractor in the state of Michigan; and holds engineered, pre-engineered and fire extinguisher licenses in the state of Illinois.

A. Elwood Willey (instructor)
A. Elwood Willey has over 35 years of fire safety experience, including 21 years with the National Fire Protection Association where he was responsible for managing and reviewing major fire studies and conducting fire investigations. For the past 12 years, he has served as a senior associate at FIREPRO Inc., where he manages the fire reconstruction program. He provides fire consulting and litigation support services to a variety of clients including law firms, insurance companies, property owners and product manufacturers. He conducts fire investigations and analysis of fire incidents including those involving commercial cooking equipment and exhaust systems. Willey has authored over 25 professional articles, papers and reports; and co-authored a chapter of the National Fire Protection Association's Fire Protection Handbook, 19th edition. He graduated with a bachelor of science from the University of Maryland and is a certified fire investigator.
